GIS and Remote sensing

Geographic information systems (GIS) is important in managing resources and facilitating effective management decisions. GIS data is used to map and track natural resources, maintain and update complex equipment inventories or urban assets, and many other tasks. It is has gone beyond the traditional boundary of defense infrastructure, utility services and land record management. The Geographic Information Technology curriculum at GKLM provides a broad background in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) technologies with practical applications in municipal, industrial, natural resources, management, and other fields. Geographic data Systems (GIS) is imperative in overseeing assets and encouraging successful administration choices. GIS information is utilized to guide and track common assets, keep up and refresh complex gear inventories or urban resources, and numerous different undertakings. It is has gone past the conventional limit of safeguard framework, utility administrations and land record administration. The Geographic Information Technology educational programs at GKLM gives an expansive foundation in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) advancements with useful applications in metropolitan, mechanical, normal assets, administration, and different fields.

About The Course

GIS have a completely unique impact on range of learning by focusing on the spatial data about what is where on Earth is surface and settling on choices simple by speaking to the data in a computerized organize which can be altered, inspected and refreshed in an easy to use condition.

  1. On finishing of the course, members can:
    • To lead intriguing preparing programs in GIS for giving handson preparing abilities to hopefuls in broad daylight and private part.
    • Investigate and know geoinformation issues experienced in expert practice and create suitable strategies for contemplating and additionally taking care of the issues.
    • Be appropriate reasonable strategies for gathering, securing and confirming spatial information; 5. Bring into play geoinformation science and earth perception innovation to create, coordinate, examine and imagine spatial information.
  2. Assess and apply important and proper strategies and models for information investigation and critical thinking.
    • To help in GISrelated key arranging, advancement and execution of GIS strategies.
    • To form mastery in georelational programming item advancement through connected research in GI Sciences and their applications.
    • To offer Certification course in the fields of Remote Sensing and Geographical Information Systems.

Course Objectives

During the GIS and Remote sensing

On completion of the course, participants are able to:

  1. To conduct interesting training programs in GIS for giving handson training capabilities to candidates in public and private sector.
  2. Investigate and know geoinformation problems encountered in professional practice and develop appropriate methods for studying and/or solving the problems.
  3. Be applicable suitable methods for collecting, acquiring and verifying spatial data.
  4. Bring into play geoinformation science and earth observation technology to generate, integrate, analyse and visualize spatial data.
  5. Assess and apply relevant and appropriate methods and models for data analysis and problem solving.
  6. To help in GISrelated strategic planning, development and implementation of GIS policies.
  7. To build expertise in georelational software product development through applied research in GI Sciences and their applications.
  8. To offer Certification course in the fields of Remote Sensing and Geographical Information Systems.

The courses are modular in structure: each module is of 3 weeks duration. The course is covered in 14 modules, which are organized in 3 blocks. The overall course structure is provided in Table 1 and module descriptions are provided in Table 2.

Block 1: Consists of 3 core modules covering the basic principles of: (1) Geographic Information (GI) Science, (2) Earth Observation, and (3) System Earth, Use and Users, Spatial Data Infrastructure, Geoportals and Data Integration.
Block 2: Consists of 7 domain (Geoinformatics) specific modules to deepen the understanding of Remote Sensing and GI Science techniques and their applications.
Block 3: Consists of 4 modules in which students carry out a Pilot project, write a report and make the presentation before a committee consisting of IIRS and ITC experts.

At the end of your course, you will work on a real time Project. You will receive a Problem Statement along with a dataset to work.
Once you are successfully through with the project (reviewed by an expert), you will be awarded a certificate with a performance based grading.
If your project is not approved in 1st attempt, you can take additional assistance to understand the concepts better and reattempt the Project free of cost.
